Food Revolution Petition

Remember how I told you about Jamie Oliver and how he attempting to change the school lunch food system in America? Well, if you've watched the Food Revolution, you know that he has done an amazing job in Huntington, West Virginia, but it can't stop there...and you can help too! After I posted about the show Food Revolution, someone recommended that I check this out.

Jamie started a petition to improve school food & knowledge about healthy eating and he plans to send it to the White House. You can sign it here, it only takes 30 seconds. Over 500,000 people have already signed it. This could really make a difference in the way Americans eat and help them live healthier and longer lives.

Today in my advertising class we watched "Food, Inc." There is some seriously scary stuff going on with the way Americans eat and what they are eating, and I think that action needs to be taken.

I think the thing from the movie that stuck with me the most was that income and obesity are almost directly related, and something needs to be done about this. There should be healthy food available for the same price as the burgers on the "Dollar Menu" at McDonald's, in my opinion.

OMG I love this show! It really shows how badly kids in schools eat. I remember eating Choco Tacos and french fries like every day in middle school for lunch. How nutrional! Kids need to be not given unhealthy choices and I hope that Jamie Oliver succeeds in his mission!

I'm definitely signing this petition. I'm so big on the food "revolution" or so its called... I just wish that I had the money and time to make all of the choices that I'd like to with my food. I hope that I'm doing what I can with the resources I have available now!

And Molly, I watched Food Inc with my boyfriend a couple of months ago (his family is big into the food consciousness thing) and it totally changed the way I think about food. Factory farmed meat? No thank you. That movie is a gem.

I haven't watched Food Inc. yet, but now I really want to! The craziest thing about watching the Food Revolution is that people just don't KNOW how to eat healthy, so I food education is pretty important, and having healthy food available to kids, it's not fair that they don't really have a choice at school...I know I didn't...It was either chicken fingers or a cheeseburger EVERY DAY.

I'm going to try and watch Food Inc. this week...thanks for the recommendation!

i agree with Ben. however, kids eat crap nowadays. i read in the Times last week that Military higher ups are worried that this generation of youngsters won't be physically fit enough to fight when they get to be that age. i'm trying to hop on the organic wave.

The only problem about hopping on the organic wave is that it's SO expensive. I'll make that sacrifice when I have enough money to pay for it. It's great that he is trying to change the school lunch system, but sometimes I think the unhealthy habits start in the home. Parents need to teach their kids how to eat healthy so that when they're in school, they will make the right decisions.
